HJSplit Tutorial (Splitting Videos)

Well everyone, here's your HJSplit tutorial to help with those huge video files. This way you can upload your file to this server and we can limit the guest downloads. I will be using this with all my video uploads so if you want to watch my movies, get used to using it.

Okay, first thing first, download HJSplit. There is nothing to install, just a self executable file that does all the work itself.

Make sure your movie or file is in a folder you have easy access to. For this tutorial I made a folder and placed it on my desktop. The video I used is from Johnsher3's post here. Thanks for the vid!

Creating a Split File

Step 1

Put your video into the folder you made.

Step 2

Open HJSplit and and click split.

Step 3

Click Source File, and select the file you want to split.

Step 4

Select a good file size. 500 Kb it awesome cause they upload fast, and download fast.

Step 5

Click Start

Step 6

TaDa! Done. Your file is split into files of 500 Kb or less.

Step 7

Now you can close HJSplit.

Step 8

Check to make sure you have all your split files into one spot. And go to a hosting website, my favorite it http://sexuploader.com, upload all your parts and paste the link for each file into a text file.

Once you have your links, save the text file as something similar to the file.

Step 9

Now you have everything you need to share your file. Just create a new thread and attach the text file to the thread. This way, we can help out mOOse by limiting the guest downloads, and leeching. All files are on another server to help with bandwidth, and we get to check out more stuff!

Joining a Split File

This works remarkably the same way. Here you go.

Step 1

Use the links in the text file attached to a thread to download the parts of the movie. Make sure you save them all into one folder.

Step 2

Open HJSplit and click Join

Step 3

You will have to choose your first file as your input file. Once you click input, the only thing that will show up, even though you downloaded all parts, will be *.*.001

Step 4

Click Start

Step 5

TaDa! Now you have one file!

Step 6

Now you can close HJSplit.

Step 7

Lean back in your chair and enjoy.

K I split the file...but now it won't play in windows media player anymore...did I do something wrong?

Once you've got a splt file, the only thing that will open it is HJSplit. You have to join the files.

Understood, only HJSplit can be used to join them and view the file. However how will this help or work for S&F users who i want to share and post the vid wit?

When I have a video that is bigger than the allowed size to attach to a thread, I need to make it smaller. In My Sybian Girl Thread, I have about 100+ attachments at avg. 5 MB a piece. Can you imagine the bandwidth stress I am putting on mOOse's server?

Each movie is about 60 MB's long. I have to find a way to make movies smaller. In comes HJSplit.

You can split your file into smaller files to help you with uploading them. Quicker to upload (5) 10 MB files than (1) 50MB file. Somewhere like sexuploader.com. Put all your download links into one text file and attach that to the thread. I do that so I can see how many peolpe are downloading my stuff.

Yeah a bit, i still got couple of things to ask you if you dont mind...

OK 1st off, i love that thread of urs and enjoyed viewing it, thank you for that thread!!

2nd off, on that thread (My Sybain Girl Thread) in order to view the vid you dont have to use sexuploader, you know what im saying you just click and view or save and view the vid.

3 rd off i used sexuploader 2x already and how would i view how may ppl downloaded my vid?

4th (lol i hope u dont get pissed off i like to know and understand things lol) im am still confuzed. Like what u saying is u would split a big file like 50mb to 5 files of 10 mb and then u would upload all 5 of the smaller files and ppl would dl all 5 files and view them seperately?

5th when i split the vidoes i could not view them any more. Like how would that help? If the files or video is smaller, but i can see the video nor can anyone else what differents does it make what size it is and how much bandwidth you save if i still cant see the vidoes when they are split by the HJsplit? u get what i am saying (do u understand what im am trying to ask you)?

Thank you, I took a lot of time to make sure that thread was laid out nicely. I am still considering that thread active.

I uploaded them all to the site without consideration to mOOse's Bandwidth. That's why all the files are attached to the threads.

You can't. That's why doing it this way is better. You upload your file(s) to Sexuploader, post the download links in an attached text file, and you can see how many people download the text file. Hence you can tell how many people downloaded your file.

If I wasn't prepared to field all the questions, I wouldn't have posted the tutorial. Ask away!

You can't view the files separately, you have to have all the files in order to join them. Makes it a little tasky for the user, but when you think about it, it's not that bad. Just don't use Rapidshare to host your files. Users can only download some at a time. With Sexuploader, you can start another download as soon as you're finished one.

Once you split the file, you can't view it until you join all the parts again. Once you do that, you should be fine. Let me know if, in fact, you have joined the "parts" and still could not view the file.

If you are using Windows XP, use the Windows Movie Maker.

A little help though, sometimes the files which are split end up as one which is not recognized by the system (e.g. wmv, mpeg, avi). Usually, it ends up as a .001 file.
How do I remedy that?

Can't you do the same thing with windows movie maker? Just split the clips at various points and save each clip you split off.

Yes. Honestly, I think Windows Movie Maker does a better job of it. And then, you don't depend on people having/using the same software as you.

I asked that question more than a month ago and I'm using Windows Movie Maker now. I wanted to compare the two though and see which suits me best. Besides, Windows Movie Maker doesn't accept all kinds of vid formats (e.g., avi clips) and I'd like a alternative.
I had a free version of AviSplit (which expired after a time) and it was the best as it allowed you to split a clip down to a specific frame and it accepted almost all kinds of clips.
