Default Alaska Gal

Just an ordinary housewife out shopping at Wal-Mart in Alaska.

No permit required in Alaska for either open carry (must be 18) or concealed carry (must be 21).

CHECK THEIR CRIME RATES - THE LOWEST IN THE USA! Why would that be? And not one school shooting, either!

They don't have enough people to get a serious crime wave, although they do have major issues with drugs.

Alaskans also literally get cut a check by the government just for living there. Maybe every state should do that too?

If you have the option for both open or concealed carry, it's always better to go with concealed, even in gun friendly States like Kansas where I live. Simply because concealed carry should go unnoticed if you do it right. I've been carrying concealed for about 4-1/2 years.

Really depends on the state you live in. If you go concealed weapon in my state, then it always has to be concealed. If it happens end up not concealed, shirt pulls up, jacket isn't zipped ,ect it is a hefty fine for brandishing a weapon.

IMHO, ppl shouldn't open carry. Most are not trained to deal with some asshole trying to disarm them.

Actually from the studies I have read it is a bigger deterent. If everyone that has a gun has to open carry the crooks know who not to rob. If its a lottery as to if the person you try to rob has a gun or not then crooks are less likely to take the chance.

Didn't sound like he was complaining about it to me. He suggested it as a policy for other states to follow, after all.

Oh by the way it dawned on me. Every state already does this. Difference is most other states spend your money for you instead of sending you a check.

Its already done, all state resources are techinically owned by the citizens. It is just the state decides to spend every bit of it instead of giving out a divedends

Alaskan oil profits are just enough to give a population slightly larger than Seattle $1K per person. We'd need something a bit larger to expand such a program to the entire country. It's absolutely doable, mind, but it'd cost a bit more than you'd be willing to pay.

Not a problem. Do what governments always do. Raise taxes.

Leaving aside the fact that as you know "Just raise taxes LOL" is not an option in the current political climate, the last time I did the calculations, the cheapest option for a basic income would have cost several hundred billion dollars per year, while the simplest option would have required doubling or tripling the current budget. Alternatively, we don't really need taxes when we can just do as Alaska does and share out dividends from the National Permanent Fund, but given that we need several hundred billion in annual dividends, that would require capturing a large portion of the US economy.

Facts or GTFO. Anecdotal arguments will be met with mockery.
Food stamps stimulate the economy, tax cuts don't, tax rates are at a historic low, welfare queens are either non-existent or embarrassingly near.

That is not how that program works. Alaskans are not even getting the profits from the oil. Their getting divedens from oil investments.
