Amazon would have received $2.5 billion in tax breaks but they would still have to pay a lot of tax. In addition, everyone they employed there would have been paying tax.
AOC figures that it would be better to spend that $2.5b on additional services.
Counting her chickens before they're hatched. If Amazon isn't there there isn't going to be ANY taxes.

Clarified it for you.
AOC is apparently counting on spending taxes that Amazon would have paid IF they were in New York and IF they didn't get a tax break. As they aren't getting the tax break and aren't settling in New York, New York misses out on all the billions that would have been paid. Unfortunate as AOC had plans for it.

Pretty sure Amazon said they were going into queens. Pretty sure that queens is a ghetto. Pretty sure amazon was going to dump 2.5 billion into queens. NYC may be populated, but they don't seem to want to or can't fix up queens, so I would say it was a pretty big loss.

That does make a difference. However, I'm pretty sure that's still wrong.
1. The only people I've seen talking about spending Amazon's tax revenue were proponents of the deal. The opposition wanted to spend Amazon's tax incentives on other services. If the city can afford to spend several billion dollars persuading Amazon to move in, it can afford to spend several billion dollars fixing the subway and building more housing.
2. AOC is a Congressional Rep; she wouldn't see a dime of Amazon's tax payments to NYC, but she will still get to play with the revenue from the Arlington campus.

Someone needs to explain to New York City what the word "lost" means. You can't lose something that didn't exist. Amazon did not hire 25,000 people, so no jobs were lost. They didn't pay any of those people they didn't hire, so no wages were lost. And those people they didn't hire didn't spend the wages they didn't earn so there was no loss of economic activity.

Well, you can lose the possibility of something, as I might lose a possible job offer because I miss an interview. Although this changes the argument to "How dare AOC remind us not to count our chickens before they hatch".

I don't see the word "possibility" anywhere on that sign above.

Which is where the second sentence in my post comes in. AOC wasn't the one counting chickens on the Amazon deal.

Right because NYC was a ghost town before Amazon offered to move in.

You're a dumbfucking moron. Let Leftist zealots like AOC run rampant, and you WILL see NYC become a figurative ghost town.

It's all cool though, people like you would rather live of gubment cheese and stolen handouts anyway.

Amazon will wake up soon enough, and move to a place like Texas or Florida, where we honor hard work, investment, profits, etc.

"Lost Opportunity" is what they quite obviously meant. This would be obvious to anybody who understood enough about business that they did not wind up living in a tent, on wheels, and brag about it.

How's that "view" working out for you BTW?

The city wasn't spending several billion dollars persuading Amazon to move in. They were saying we'll give you this incentive in lowered taxes. Instead of hitting you with $18b in taxes over the next ten years we'll only charge you $15b.
I'm sure the city could spend that extra $3b but they won't be getting it. Neither will they be getting the other $15b which they would also have loved to spend.

What was lost was the opportunity to have those things.
If you want to get ahead you must accept the opportunities when they come along.

That does make a difference. However, I'm pretty sure that's still wrong.

Again as you pointed out the opponents against amazon think there is some kind of real money there. That 3 billion dollars only exist if amazon builds there. The city is not handing amazon 3 billion, they are not charging them in the future. This should give you a huge indication about how stupid the opponents to it actually are.

I don't think you quite understand this. You choose to live in an RV. Your RV will only devalue with time. If you had bought a house it will only increase in value with time. So by choosing to live in an RV you have lost a lot of money.
