Will Jake Peavy get traded from the Padres?
How much $$$ will the Yankees pony up this off season?

I honestly hope Manny signs with the Yankees just because their outfield is a complete cluterfuck as it is. And if they use him at DH that means Johnny "noodle arm" Damon stays in the outfield. One real plus on that would be is Manny would have a normal haircut FINALLY!

So are the days of buying a championship over with? The Yankees have tried now for awhile now can't do it, the Red Sox are hit and miss. You look at the Rays ,Twins, Angels, those off the top of my head, made the playoff, Rays in the World Series. The teams that try and buy a Ring, seam to fall a little short. The teams that are living off their farm teams are doing the best or so it seams.

Wow "the Red Sox are hit and miss"? check out all the playoff teams and their results since 2003 and the one with the best results out of any team has been the Red Sox making the playoffs every year but one. The 2nd best team in playoff appearences.... The Yankees and they missed it only this year. While I agree the Yankees system is flawed they have a bit of a difficult owner to deal with not to mention being in the most scrutinized city for Baseball, the Red Sox have infused their teams with young players from their system since back when they 1st won in 2004 (Kevin Youkilis). This past year alone they had Youkilis, Dustin Pedroia, Manny Delcarmen, Jacoby Ellsbury, Jonathan Papelbon, Jon Lester, Jed Lowrie all on their 25 man roster that originally came from their farm system. Might wanna check out your facts 1st next time....

I'm sure you are right about the Red Sox and their farm system and their players on their team that came from it, I was saying all the money they spend on their team. But thanks for setting me straight, I need it every once in awhile.

im not gonna argue that the Red Sox dont spend money when they have to but its not all they do their farm system is very productive and regarded highly
this is a link to the 2008 farm system rankings: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/ar...articleid=7204
this is also a link to how each team spends their money:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27089678
Scroll down about half way and you will see a table called moneyball. Teams with a higher spending then the Red Sox: Yankees $209 million, Tigers $137 million, Mets $137 million. Red Sox come in at $133 million and out of this group are the only team to make the playoffs

I take it you are a Sox fan. I am as well, my grandmother was from Salem, so growing up we watched when we could. I grew up with Yaz, Lynn, Rice, Fisk, and Evans. Later on Boggs and Clemens, these are two I want to talk about. Are they traitors going to the Yankees, Damon as well?

First and foremost yeah im a Sox fan but also a fan of the game as well. As for traitors I personally dont care. Clemens is just a piece of work as it is. Damon? well lets just say Theo Epstein made a good call yeah sure it hurt like hell when he left but was the right call

How I missed arguing with you
Anyway, the Red Soxs followed the same formula the Yankees did in the late 90s. The yankees brought up a core group of guys like jeter, pettite, rivera, williams, posada, etc. Through free agency and trades we got the missing pieces to win the world series, such as a david justice, clemens, etc. The Red Soxa have done the same recently and my yanks are trying to as well with hughes/joba etc.
What pisses me off is people who say the yankees buy their rings and the red soxs did so by brining up their guys and raising a farm system. Thats pure bullshit for a few reasons
1. We have not won since we went free agent happy.
2. Our recent dynasty was with mostly our guys, like the ones I listed above.
3. The 2004 Red Soxs were more bought then any team we ever fielded recently that won a World Series. Name the key pieces to that team and you will realize most were bought ( Ortiz, Damon, Schilling, Manny need I go on)
The bottom line is both teams use the resources they have. The Yankees have learned the past few seasons we need to raise a deeper farm system and most people do not realize Cashman has done just that. Our system is so deep it is not even funny. The Red Soxs have done the same, as have the Rays. When the Yankees guys are ready this will be a hell of a race each year.

Phillies better learn how to knock some runners in when in scoring position, or they are going to be in trouble.

You can't put Ortiz on that list. He was a fastball hitter that the Twins did not want anymore. He happened to blossom in Boston where pitchers had to throw good stuff because Manny was hitting behind him.

but he was still technically bought. the point donny was making was that all the real cogs were taken from the free agent pool, as opposed to developed in the farm system. it's recently that the sox have been reverting back to sowing their own talent in the farm system, an approach the yankees need to get back to. i hate to say it, but i'm kind of advocating a total overhaul for that roster. keep the left side of the infield, the young arms, rivera and posada, and develop the rest. robbie cano is a good example of reverting back, as was melky cabrera before he receded offensively

Manny wanting 6 years??? one reaction from me LOL
Sabathia maybe getting more than what Johan got from the Mets last year? hmmm possible
Mark Texiera bidding down to 3 teams all in the AL East? (Baltimore, Boston and New York) - could be interesting
Whats left for Jason Giambi? KC Royals?

Quickly, since 1990 which team/s has/have been able to defend its/their WS throne?
Answer: Only the Blue Jays (1992-1993) and the Yankees (1998-2000). Everyone else has been hit-and-miss, with only Atlanta (1995 and its 1996 near win) coming close.
---------------------------
Going back on-topic -
I think it will either be the Dodgers or Yankees who will land CC Sabathia.
I think Manny will go to the Mets.
I think Peavy will be traded, the only question will be to which team.
