Default Newbie FAQs - READ THIS FIRST - Updated 6/28/09

The Official Sexy & Funny Forum
Newbie FAQ

Where and/or what are the forum rules?
You can find them here. Reading and abiding by them is mandatory. Some rules allow for minor infractions without penalty, but most do not.

How do I post pictures and/or vidcaps for videos?
We will be adding a www.ImageBam.com tutorial in the very near future. ImageBam is the preferred picture host on S&FF, but any picture host that does not pay for itself via pop-ups, automatic-install Active-X scripts, etc, is acceptable as long as we are not on their "block" list (eg - Image Beaver is okay, ImageFap is not!)

When I post a link to another site, it comes up as plain text (not a link). Why is that?
In the interest of protecting forum members from potential threats, this site utilizes a "safe list". Sites on the "safe list" come up as links; those that are not come up as plain text. Of course, this means that if the site and/or filetype being linked are not on our "banned" list, all you have to do is copy the link, and paste it in the address bar of your browser. It's just an extra, "Are you sure you want to do this?" precaution... nothing more.

Why can't I download Sexy Videos?
There are three possibilities.
1.If your username is in light blue, you must upgrade your account to download sexy videos. See "Upgrade Your Account!" above. Click it, pay 10 Euros and you will become a premium user. There is another option (described below), but this is the only guaranteed method.
2.If your username is dark blue or green, then you should have access to everything on the forums. If you get a blank GIF, you're in the Thread Graveyard.
3. Check here if you're getting the following error message:
Quote:
Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.
What about asking people to post videos to Rapidshare?
No. If you can't follow a few simple rules for downloading videos, what makes you think we'd want to bend over backwards for you?

How can I get full access without paying 10 Euros/giving my credit card info?
First of all, you don't have to give your credit card info to pay. Pre-paid, single-use debit cards should work just as well.

Secondly, good contributors and contest winners may be promoted from light blue to dark blue, or from dark blue to green from time to time at the discretion of the administrator, and/or according to the terms of any contests offered by the site moderators. There is an Upgrade Nomination forum where anyone may be nominated (yes, you may even nominate yourself) and via a poll, it is decided whether or not you get an upgrade, but this only works from light blue to dark blue. Likewise, there is another possibility for light blue to dark blue upgrades being discussed, but it has not been declared official yet.

I have pictures of [insert celebrity or pro-model's name here]. Where can I post them?
As a rule, you can't. S&FF Babes is strictly for models, photographers, and their webmasters (not even freelance webmasters), and Homegrown Hotties is for amateurs and their friends to post pics of themselves. However, if they are wallpapers, animated .gif files, or you can find a good "current events" justification for it, such images may be posted in General Mayhem. Keep in mind, though, that this is an exception, and the moderators may not agree with your justification.

Ok, I know this would be allowed on here. Where do I post it?
Try checking the list in post 4 of this thread. If that doesn't help, feel free to ask any moderator. We're here to help.

Default More questions

What are reputation points, how do you earn/lose them, and what does it matter how many you have anyway?
You can give rep to any post that is not your own, and may be given rep for any post you make. This will generally happen when someone appreciates your post, for whatever reason. Negative reps are also sometimes given out for rule-breaking posts, but positive reps are more common.

The green squares change as you accumulate rep points. Touch a few peoples points, and you can see the various phrases that come with that many points.

Dark green squares initially increase in increments of 100.
At 500 points the squares change to light green, and the increments for change become 200.
At 1500 points, the squares change to yellow, and the increments for change become 1000.
At 6500 points, you get a gold bar, and your squares reset to "zero".

Your Rep Power is how many points you give every time you give someone positive rep. If you give negative rep, it is half your Rep Power (rounded up). This number is calculated based on your number of posts (1 per 1000 posts), your accumulated rep points (1 per 1000 points), and the length of time you've been a member (1 per year), all added to a base of 1 which is what everyone starts with.

EDIT: There has recently been a cap placed on rep power. The formula has not changed, but anyone whose power should be 10 or more now has a rep power of 10.

I cannot give any more rep? What are these rep limits?
You may only rep a given post once. Note that this is once per post, not once per thread.
You may not give rep to the same person twice in a row. For example, if you give rep to DandyDon for one of his posts, and then want to give him rep for another of his posts, you must first find someone else to give some rep to.
You may give out up to 20 reps in a 24-hour period. This is not affected by your rep power... someone with a rep power of 10, for example, can give out 20 10-point reps in a day.

Why is such-and-such a type of content or post banned, blocked, and/or against the rules?
At the risk of sounding trite... because the admin and moderators say so. mOOse started these Forums as an extension of his Sexy & Funny.com website, and therefore had a very specific vision in mind. This vision may have evolved slightly since the inception of these forums over a year ago, but the rules are primarily in place to enforce that vision. If mOOse or the mods feel that a type of content does not belong on this site, then it is against the rules, as simple as that.

What is all the fuss about reposts?
Nobody likes being the first to do something, only to have his glory stolen by someone else doing the same thing. Furthermore, there's no real reason to have the same content on the forum multiple times.

Before posting anything try to do a search. In fact, try doing a few. Yes, it's time-consuming. I wish as much as anyone that there were a better way. If you're fairly confident that what you're posting hasn't been posted before, then go ahead and post it.

If you need to search for a two or three letter word, add * marks as wild cards to total 4 characters for searching. Expl: *hot

What does the title under my name mean? I didn't think I broke any rules!
Premium members (including Homegrown Hotties and Moderators) can change their title at any time. Everyone else uses the default titles unless given a custom title by mOOse, as follows:

0 to 4 posts - I'm probably breaking the rules in some way
5 to 29 posts - Forum Newbie
30 to 49 posts - I Like Girls
50 to 79 posts - Hey Ladies.. I'm sexy AND funny!
80 to 99 posts - I Like to Post
100 to 199 posts - Distinguished Forum Member... BOOBS!
200 to 299 posts - Forum Whore
300 to 499 posts - I have reached the point of no return
500 to 749 posts - Certified SAF Addict
750 to 999 posts - I live on these forums, you get out!
1000+ posts - Why don't I have a Custom Title by now?

At any time - Banhammer Victim - This title is given to anyone who deliberately or blatantly breaks the forum rules. Generally speaking, the more serious the offense, the more likely and longer-term the ban (may be for a day or two, a week, a month, or permanent).

How do I download YouTube videos, or videos from other flash-based streaming sites?
If you use firefox, you can get a video downloader extension, which let's you save from YouTube and most other sites. You can find it here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3006

If you don't want to download Firefox have a look at:
http://www.youtubex.com/
http://downloadyoutubevideos.com/
http://media-convert.com/

If you're looking for something to play .flv and other files without wanting to install codec packs do a search for KMPlayer, doesn't need installed and has lots of 'built in' codecs.

I would like an animated gif as my avatar, but whenever I try to upload it, it shrinks and doesn't move.
You sure can have one as long as its size is below 19.5 kb and its size is below 80 by 80 pixels . If you try to upload something bigger, the forum software will automatically reduce the size to 19.5 kb or 80 by 80 (120 by 120 for premium members, with similarly larger file-size).

To resize an animated gif, I suggest downloading and using the GIMP (freeware - http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/). Then, simply open the gif you want to use, scale it to the appropriate size for the forum, and remember to save layers as animation. If that still doesn't work, start a thread asking for help in Support/Feedback. There are a number of people here on S&FF who would be happy to help you with this, and only ask for thanks in return.

What do the following wraps/tags do?
The Quote tag puts a comment in a quote-box, like so:
Quote:
This is a quote.
The Code, HTML, and PHP tags allow you to post code visibly, rather than having the code take effect. However, it should be noted that HTML does not work on these forums anyway. Also, be sure to use the right tag for the type of code you're trying to post.
PHP Code:
Typing [quote]This is a quote.[/quotewill give you the quote-box posted above
The Spoiler tag hides a comment in a Click to Show, like so: click to show.

New Features!
- You can now be notified when other people have quoted you in any thread via a PM. This could be a potentially very handy feature as a lot of the time you forget to check back a thread so you don't realize someone has replied to you or asked you a question. To enable quote notifications, go to your User CP -> Edit Options-> and under "Quote Notification" select Private Message.

- Next up, a handy new thing for the more Tech savvy amonst you. There is now an RSS feed for all the forums. It basically lists the latest created threads in that particular forum. It is located here:

once you've clicked on it, you'll need to add that URL to your favorite RSS parser, in my case the iGoogle homepage:

So in this case I added the RSS for the Sexy Videos forum so all the new threads are shown right there, before I even venture out into the forums. If you have no idea what I'm talking about don't worry, just overlook this one. If you want to learn about it though check out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RSS_(file_format)

- And finally, you can set the default color you want all your posts to show up as and then post away without ever having to change it to that color again. if you make a new post and manually change it to another color, then that will overwrite your default color setting.

Here's how to set it:

-click on User CP in the nav bar.
-click on Edit Profile.
-where it says "Default post font color" type in the color name or better yet the 6 character hex code:

That's it! It not only works for new posts but it'll also automatically display all the posts you've ever made in the past in this color too. When making new posts you don't need to change the color anymore, as soon as you hit submit they'll be that default color you entered.

If you wish to undo it, simply go back to Edit profile and make the field blank, all your posts will go back to the original black color.
