the "grim spectre of death" was lord voldemort and he was showing the engish literature
that is who they pick?
See that's what I'm talking about.
They have a history which includes Tennyson, William Blake, Charles Dickens, Oscar Wilde and Kipling, yet they use a Harry Potter character to represent their literary legacy? WTF is that?
Why don't I have a Custom Title by now? Seriously?

I agree with you.
That was part of the representation of children's literature, that and Peter Pan. They had already read from Shakespeare and doffed their caps to Dickens.
I am guessing that most on this site are Americans, which is probably why you didn't get it.
From a British perspective I thought it was brilliant and paid homage to our musical and alternative culture. No other ceremony would have Going Underground and Pretty Vacant played at it. You can keep your 3,000 Chinese banging on their big drum torches.

this seems to be the general consensus.. Brit's loved it, rest of the world not so much. it's like they made it for themselves and not for the 1 billion or so people watching.
Look, it was done on the cheap, I liked it, but then again the Brits will like anything. When it comes to propaganda, nobody beats the USA. Hilter knew it, Bin Laden knew it, now you know it.

I'm just glad that nothing went wrong during the Opening Ceremony. It could have ended up like the 1988 one in Seoul. The organisers should have guessed that the doves were gonna perch on top of the Olympic Flame. I thought that the Koreans knew a lot about animals, they should do, after all they eat most of them.

I don't know why they bothered to be honest. People these days don't understand anything, even with the benefit of tv commentators. Well at least "the masters of mankind" enjoyed it, and they're the ones who really matter. After all, it certainly helped to distract a lot of the population. They didn't like my idea of giving the entire village over to the homeless though. Still atleast these games haven't made anyone leave their homes like in Beijing and Rio. Now what I've always found to be fasinating, is the appeal of Mr. Bean to the people who are, erm how can I put this, a bit simple, a bit retarded. Still it was great to see two real hero's there. The founder of the human rights group Liberty, and the particle physicist who gave you all the World Wide Web, so that you could become completely ignorant about it.

That's borderline racist as true as it may be lol
Besides, they eat things that are only considered "odd" or "weird" in western culture just like how eating scraps from an animal shoved into a casing or scraps shoved into a can is considered western to the eastern side of the world
