No More Fucking
Residents of a small Austrian village called Fucking, with a population of 103, are to vote this week about whether they should change their name to something else.
The residents are annoyed that everyday pranksters call them and ask in English “Is that Fucking” and hang up.
Fucking Mayor Franz Meindl said that the village’s road signs are regularly stolen by tourists – even though all of the signs are welded on steel posts in concrete. The phone calls Mayor added ” are a final straw in our quite and beautiful Fucking village”.
The couples apparently travel all the way to this village to take naked photos next to Fucking’s road signs. However local entrepreneurs are against the name change because they had been cashing in well by selling Fucking postcards, Fucking Christmas cards and Fucking beer.
In 1996 the village voted to keep the name despite increasing number of tourists coming into the village for all the wrong reasons.
So what could be the alternative name? The residents will vote whether to change the current name Fucking to “Fugging”. The historians found that in the 16th century the village name was in fact spelled with “g” and many want it to be reinstated.
The Mayor added: “I always wanted the name to stay, but it’s too much now. The only problem now is that we need all of the Fucking residents to agree on the name change”.
