The reason people take online courses is because they don't have the time to go to class or spend numerous hours writing and rewriting an essay.

There is also not enough man power and time for a professor to mark essays and problem solving questions. Not to mention when you get into that stuff, the need for a physical person to talk to and ask questions becomes much greater.

Ultimately I think the education system is a fucking rip off anyways. Testing and grading isn't done because it's the best option to evaluate a person. It's done because it's the easiest and only way when dealing with the number of people that are being taught.

Now that more and more schooling is becoming "required" just to stand out for jobs, you have more and more people wasting away in classrooms instead of actually learning anything useful.

My online classes were much more useful to me than listening to some old fart. But that's my learning style. I teach myself better than anyone else can and I learn by seeing and doing. Something that is much more common in an online course than a classroom.

Surveys like this can be flawed by the simple fact that many students don't see what they are doing as cheating..

When I was in college you would have girls in the middle of class giving each other answers or checking answers in some math course... when the teacher would call them out on it they were be shocked that telling a fellow student during an exam that their answer was incorrect would be wrong....

Same goes with papers... many would just find a paper online and change the wording or style to make it look like their own and turn it in ( great chef method) and would actually argue with the faculty council as to why they didn't plagiarize & have their parents go along with it....

Got to agree I'm in a physical class room for that reason. It's criminal justice and the writen test are worthless. Hell most of the teachers go over the answer with us before hand then we take the test.

It's like the CPR class you can get CPR certified with out ever having done the physical part of cpr breaths and chest compressions by taking an online test. THAT SCARES ME.

Agreed. Almost always, no matter what your degree, when you start your job you will go through training...and you will learn more as you work, and many times how you do things is in direct contrast to what you learned.

Of course that depends on your career and degree, but my education helped me get in the door, my experience, which I learned on the job, is what makes me good at what I do.

100% Agree, experience > school. The problem with school (all school, not just Uni or College, or High School, all schooling) is that it teaches you how to pass a test and how to memorise things, not how to actually put stuff into practice.

And that is what I excell at. I've always been good at taking in information and using it to solve something completely different or that hasn't even been answered yet.

I'm not so good at just memorizing and reciting back. Not to mention real life jobs generally don't ask you to have complex theories and routines done by memory after only a month. And if they do, you actually do them and not just read about it.

Every career should be an apprenticeship but Universities make people too much money to be closed down considering the internet has rendered their main reason for existence obsolete, A place for collecting and passing on knowledge.
