Ford didn't need help because they sold off almost all every single one of their international divisions: Land Rover, Jaguar, Aston Martin, Volvo. GM sold Saab and Hummer, and closed Saturn and Pontiac. Without help from the government, GM would have to have closed more divisions, leading to thousands more Americans losing their jobs. If you say "let them sink," you are missing the point of the bailout: to save the jobs of those affected the most-- the American Auto-Worker.
6. Don't Ask Don't Tell..............Gotta find a way to replenish troops? Don't ask, Don't tell impedes on the freedoms of gay and lesbian soldiers. It stated you can be gay, just don't tell us about it. The repeal of Don't ask, Don't tell is a big step forward towards equal rights for all Americans. Anyone who wants to serve and give his or her life to protect my freedoms as an American is a hero in my book.
7. MPG Boosted......................Every President does this. Yes, but Obama's Administration instituted the more aggressive standards ever seen. A fleet-wide (CAFE) standard of 54.5 mpg by 2025 (for passenger vehicles and light trucks) would reduce the U.S.'s oil consumption by 1.8 billion barrels annually. Of course every President does this, but this is a very bold move (that has been accepted by all major manufacturers, except VW).
8. Student Loans....................More Government control. If you are lucky enough to not need a student loan to pay for your higher education, more power to you. For the rest of us, the extension to pay back our Government-backed student loans is a god-send. How is this a bad thing? We took out the loan, we know what we were getting into.
9. Closing Dirty Power Palnts.....They're all dirty! Higher energy cost. Higher energy costs, yes, but a cleaner environment too. Isn't that worth it? Or do you want our children to live in a polluted, toxic environment?
10.New Start Treaty................Been there done that.Just a new era. Is that a bad thing? It's been going on for a while because of all the stockpiled nuclear arms both the U.S. and the Russians have accrued over the years. The beauty of the treaty is that it makes both sides look dedictaed to peace while giving them an opportunity to get rid of their older munitions... or would you rather not be concerned with stockpiles of nuclear arms that are aging and could be stolen by terrorists just because the President before you did the same thing?

And for BigDan..........Even Jimmy Carter would have approved the mission to kill Osama. Not a hard decison. Actually, President Carter would have pushed harder for peace summits. I don't think the Carter Administration would have approved such a mission.
