I never really understood the idea of illegally coming into America. I mean, people come here on a regular basis, on working or school visas, to travel, or simply to move here. Why don't the illegals simply come here legally? Is it because they want to work under the table and not pay taxes....or is it a matter of the country they are coming from (Mexico, Haiti, Cuba) doesn't have any means for them to come here legally. I assume if you want to move here from France, you would go to the US embassy in France and apply for a visa, enter legally and legally become a citizen. Where as there are no US embassy's in Mexico or Haiti for them to follow proper protocol.

Am I correct in assuming that they simply have no way of entering legally because of their home country?

Edit: No, I am not setting up a "point" I want to make. I am genuinely unsure of how the system works. I admit my ignorance on the whole issue.

There are many people from Mexico, for example, who travel to the USA regularly. Prior to being given a visa they must provide proof that they are likely to return. This is most usually owning a house or a having a long-term well paying job. Most residents of second and third world countries will have this requirement.

Residents of first world countries, England, Eire, etc have the presumption that they will return after their business or vacation is concluded.

Sometimes the US government's assumption on that is incorrect.

The 396,906 figure is a record, not by much but a record. A total of 392,862 people were deported in 2010 a difference of around 1% but still more. According to ICE almost 390,000 people were deported the year before that. Those are good numbers.

I’ll agree that this part is a bit deceptive but the fact that they are working the border apprehending people and sending them back is something that should make you guys on the right pretty happy. Had this been a Bush initiative I am sure your header would have been different and Stud’s reply as well. I get that you want to complain about President Obama but you chose a poor subject here.

To quote Stud, "maybe that's why he's so supportive of not enforcing illegal immigration laws." Nice line but not accurate.

IWP the initial post about his uncle is pretty much a waste of time anyway. That's like blaming Bush for his brother Neil's involvement in the savings and loan debacle. Relatives are relatives and have little to do with how I or most people look at President Obama. Yours was just a post designed to bitch about something Obama really.
